README - This file
LICENSE.TXT - Creative Software License
What are these Installable I/O Procedures ?
-------------------------------------------
The Installable I/O Procedures in the package are file format I/O
Procedures that handles image media. The supported image formats are :
o Compuserve, GIF
o PC Paintbrush, PCX
Any application can make use of these I/O Procedures (after installation)
to perform multimedia data conversion such as from OS/2 1.3 bitmap to GIF
or PCX. In order to use these I/O Procedures, application needs to make
Multimedia I/O (MMIO) API calls. For further information on the usage
of MMIO API, please refer to the MMPM/2 On-line Programming Reference.
The installation of these I/O Procedures will provide a broader base
of file formats that multimedia application can use.
Installing an I/O Procedure
---------------------------
The Installation program will modify the MMPMMMIO.INI file in the \MMOS2
directory. The PCX and GIF I/O Procedures are installed permanently in the
IOProc table.
To install the I/O Procedures :
a. Run the program INSTALL.EXE from OS/2 command prompt. This program
can be found in the Diskette provided.
=> The 'Selective Installation Utility' dialog box appears.
b. Select the feature to be installed.
c. Specify the target directory. The default is C:\CTFFC.
d. Click the INSTALL button to begin installation.
=> The 'Installation Status' dialog box appears.
=> The installation is successfully completed when you are prompted
that the original MMPMMMIO.INI has been backed up to MMPMMMIO.$$$.
e. Reboot your system.
Known Limitations
-----------------
The I/O Procedures checks for amount of available memory before performing
any conversion. If memory space is insufficient, the I/O Procedures will
stop processing. Therefore, please ensure that you have sufficient hard
disk space to do the conversion.
The processing time for conversion from BMP to GIF varies depending on
the image pattern. It is known that for some image pattern, the conversion
takes an extraordinary longer time.
The PCX I/O Procedure can read and save PCX version 5 (256 colors) only.
GIF I/O Procedure can read GIF version 87a and 89a (256 colors). It
saves as GIF version 89a.
Miscellaneous
-------------
If you want to try out these I/O Procedures, you can run our Video Kit
program, Multimedia Data Converter (shipped together with MMPM/2), etc.
